  • A domain name is the address of a website i.e. www.mywebsite.co.uk.

  • A domain name is separate from your actual website - it is the online equivalent of having a sign outside a shop which tells customers what the name of the shop is.

  • When choosing a domain name, bear in mind what people might type into Google while searching online for services or information. For example, if your name is Jane and you bake and sell cakes in the Cotswolds, you will get more traffic to your site if you call it 'www.cotswoldscakes.co.uk' than if you call it 'www.janescakes.co.uk', because people are more likely to type "Cotswolds + cakes" into Google. On the other hand, it may be important to you to have your company name in your domain name - I wanted the words 'Marcella Design' in mine.

  • When you tell me what domain name you are interested in, I will search to see if it is available (or if someone has already beaten you to it...) and acquire it for you.

  • Yes, you can. It looks professional to have an email address that matches your domain name. So if your domain name is 'www.cotswoldscakes.co.uk', you can have an email address to match e.g. 'jane@cotswoldscakes.co.uk', and/or 'sales@cotswoldscakes.co.uk'.

  • It's possible to access your new business email online using a PC or laptop via Gmail. If you would like assistance setting this up I can do this for you.

  • It's also possible to configure your tablet and smartphone to add your new email address as an account.

  • SEO stands for ‘Search Engine Optimisation’. It is the practice of optimising a website in order to increase the traffic it gets from search engines such as Google.

  • I will optimise your site for you as part of my website design price of £400 (see Prices page).

  • These days it is definitely possible for a complete beginner - if you have lots of free time - to create a nice looking website using a website builder. But optimising your site for SEO purposes is often the thing that trips people up. It takes a significant amout of time to research what to do, and how to do it. Many people feel they don't have a time, inclination or technical knowledge to undertake this.
